Thursday Free-For-All

What's happening? Me? I am still messing around with my new cellphone. That should keep me busy until New Year's...

UMC has a redlight with Push to Walk buttons that are instensely sensitive. In addition, they have a shuttle service. Yet every day, scores of medical professionals play Frogger on State Street [I'm referring mostly to that crossing that does NOT have a redlight].

This morning, a gaggle of them were running - yes, running - across State Street as I and other traffic came through. This gaggle of medical professionals (I'd say at least 15) had to stop the turn lane to wait for Northbound traffic and blocked the vision of the guy who then turned in front of me. I'm glad my brakes work.

Someone needs to do something about this.

Even FBC (who have a crosswalk and people who don't use it) doesn't have a problem this bad.

It's dangerous - to the pedestrians AND the drivers.

Yes, there's a S-V disagreement there to the end. Sue me. I was writing angry.

Geof, we have a problem like that in our town. Kids from the high school don't know what a cross walk is when they get ready to go home or go from one campus to the other.

A bunch of them will gather and cross the road and you'd think there is lead in their drawers. Some days you just want to scatter them like chickens, with your jeep.

don't get me wrong, I do love haveing the campus in town, it lends a neat atmosphere to our town that most towns don't have.

But I do wish the kids would learn to respect the road and cross in the proper place, and cross it like somebody was mowing the grass under their feet.

Don't worry, I am not arrogant enough to criticize anyone's writing (nor am I a good enough writer).

Seriously -- the Med Center is one of, if not the largest employer in Mississippi. It has a budget that would make some foreign countries envious. They can build a crosswalk.

Marshall, what kind of phone did you get. One of those blackberry's so you can text twice as fast?

Mornin!

I go past Jackson State every morning on that very nice boulevard with the nice roundabouts and lots of nice crosswalks. The kids trying to get to the middle school next to J-state don't seem to know what the crosswalks are for.

Got a Nokia flipphone for now. Am getting an iPhone when they go 3G. Am putting money in my Save envelope as we type.

Nokia is a good flip phone. DON'T get a Samsung. it has some neat features, but it drops calls.

I had one for a couple of years and it was OK. MRs.R's died, so we reupped and got better phones. I'll get my iPhone eventually. Was a little disturbed at the speed (when not on wi-fi) and the fact that it only had 8G of memory. Figure Version 2.o will address my concerns. The phone I got is pretty nice.

MR, quick cartoon question, why do you not date your cartoons like many cartoonist do? I was going back through some old ones and wondered when the heck that was done.

UMC ought to budget repaving State Street from Woodrow Wilson to the Old Canton Split (and then Old Canton down to Lakeland). It is in TERRIBLE shape and is destroying my poor little Miata every day (I have to drive home that way).

i don't date. I am married.

Seriously, because I am disorganized, like chaos and generally try to make life as hard for everyone else as I make it for myself.

We had a staff meeting in the kitchen to plan the feeding of the football team. (Not quite 5000, but I bet they eat like it!) I'm in charge of juice and milk tomorrow morning as well as transporting the plates, cups, forks, etc.

By 2:00 tomorrow afternoon, George County will be empty and Hwys 98 & 49 will be flowing northward to the stadium.

I miss my little Nokia brick phone that I had in 2002-2004. It never dropped calls. I showed my appreciation by dropping it somewhere in Vegas and never finding it again.

Version 2 of the iPhone will probably be a free upgrade. The next big thing in cell phones will be a french fry maker function.

I still have what I think is a Nokia 1112 from 03 (I think), works well so I'm not changing even though it is kind of grimy. I could probably take off the back to make sure of the model # but the batteries never been opened so I think I better not.

Did any of you notice last night that one candidate has already starting running his political ads for congress? Yes, it's true. I saw it at least 3 times.

You would think UMC could build a crossover to the parking lot. At the rate they have been adding on to the hospital, pretty soon the building will cover the entire area between Woodrow Wilson and Lakeland.

Tin Man is going to air on the SciFi channel Sunday, Parts 1, 2, and 3, and each is 2 hours long. Is that all of it? I'm going to watch it or record it to watch later. I want to see how the taped windows held up on Desperate Housewives.
