Morning Blog News Update: Tuesday Edition

The daily Ramsey schedule? Two speeches today -- one at the Clinton library at noon and one in Hattiesburg at 6:30. I will be a busy boy.

Weather
A 10% chance of rain with a balmy (it is November) high of 80. It's like it has forgotten how to rain -- it pathetically spit rain on my windshield last night. We need a weather pattern change.

Jackson: Alms for the poor
Since every other building in Jackson is either a state building or a church which can't be taxed, Jackson city leaders are trying to get part of the budget shortfall from the Legislature. There is an estimated $14 million revenue losses from having a large amount of untaxed property. Good luck. It's not exactly the most pro-Jackson group on the planet.

Unsurging
The U.S. is pulling back on the 30,000 troop surge -- which has had a positive affect on violence in Iraq. Now the test will be to see if the lower levels of killing can hold.

Prayers for rain
Gripped in a historic drought, Georgia is asking for a little help from above. Governor Sonny Perdue, lawmakers and ministers will stand on the steps of the state Capitol today and pray for rain.

Suspended sentence
Rob the bank, you get thrown under the jail. Rob the taxpayer and you get a one-year suspended sentence. Politics seems to be a safer place for those with illegal intentions. From the story: NATCHEZ — Former Adams County Circuit Clerk Binkey Vines was sentenced by Circuit Judge Joe Webster on Monday to one year in jail, and it was suspended. Vines was indicted on 13 counts of embezzlement on Sept. 26, 2006. On May 4, Vines pleaded guilty to three counts.

Bloggers go on strike to support writer's strike
From the story: Seventeen entertainment blogs—among them Televisionary, Give Me My Remote and The TVAddict—will go dark Tuesday, replacing their sites with WGA solidarity statements. Considering I no longer have time to watch @#$#@ television, this blog will continue going as is. I want to celebrate bad writing by performing it right here every day.

To be fair, the guy's name is Binkey. He wouldn't last a minute in the clink.

I looked at my son's pacifier when I read "Binkey" and laughed out loud.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care that much about the writer's strike? Don't get me wrong -- I enjoy a few shows (when I get time to watch them -- we record Boston Legal and Scrubs). But, really, some people are WAAAAY too wrapped up in their TV shows. Maybe with nothing on TV, they'll find something else to be passionate about.

Hope that doesn't sound too snarky. I know everyone has their vices, but I just think most Americans spend way too much time in front of the TV. (or in my case -- in front of my computer). I'll get off my high horse now and go play with my son. :)

The GA story makes me think of one of my all time favorite movie lines from "Leap of Faith"

- You say "When's it gonna rain?"

- I say "When's it gonna stop."

It is very profound because of the double-entendre of rain in the statement
