I got to see the drought first hand this week. Lake Allatoona, a lake the I spend a good chunk of my childhood swimming in, is nearly dried up. The city of Atlanta is on severe water rationing -- the area is nearly 20 inches behind on their rainfall. Even the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the lake levels as a regular feature on the front page of the daily paper. I almost felt guilty flushing the toilet. Almost.
It rained hard at my parent's house on Thanksgiving morning. I know most of the area was thankful for that rain. And they are hoping Santa brings them a couple more feet of it. Coal won't cut it this year -- The city will be out of business.

It looks like they are going to get some rain over the next few days. I hope it's enough to make a noticeable difference.
Scary stuff. They need lots of rain over the next several years. Not just days.
We had a similar drought in the 1980's. But now there are twice the people that there were then. You can't even have a charity car wash there now.
